Well i was hoping it wouldn't have to come down to this... but my coffee must go! There was a report on the news two nights ago reporting on caffeine and pregnancy. Drinking 2 cups of caffeinated products a day doubles your chance of a miscarriage.

Since my last 4 years (nursing school and working as a nurse) I have learned to live off of java and diet coke.

I haven't been able to stomach coffee since i got pregnant, but tea and regular coke are sooooo good. I am seriously at a loss right now. Its a bummer because i have no energy to begin with and throughout the day a coke sounds so good!

Curse the Gods for inventing caffeine!!!!!

I thought the hardest thing would be to not drink alcohol..but thats a breeeze! its the soda in the Captain -Diet that i really want!! ahhhhhhhhh

If anyone has a good idea for a "pick me up" with out the caffeine i would love to know it.

I guess i'll go sip on my bland water and stale bread-

the readers ask...and they shall received!

I'll be updating my picture as my belly grows...
and
If you want to be updated via email when i put up a new posting just
add your email to the box on the right of the screen. Let me know if you have any problems with it..it should work pretty slick!

ok..enough bloggin' for the day.. gotta go play with my puppy!
Ive been reading this book called The girlfriends guide to pregnancy by Vicki Iovine. It is GREAT! It gives practical, humorous and comforting advice on things such as morning sickness, maternity underwear, bladder control, pregnancy insanity, stretch marks,sex...etc

In fact.. the next one of my girlfriends who gets pregnant will get this BOOK!!! what an incentive. (i have even highlighted some fun parts )

Right now I'm at the part of maternity fashion.. gulp! That is still down the road for me but my girlfriend Natalie was right... Target does have lots of cute maternity fashions..thank goodness

Since we won't know the sex of the baby or the exact due date till Feb 7th Mike and I have been having fun thinking of all the possibilities... that's when my mother-in-law informs us that there is a history of twins on her side..... GULP!

I do have to say the idea of two super cute babies at one time would be amazing..... but I would be more than happy with just one healthy one!

My morning sickness is slowly fading, and now i am able to eat meat again. ( i had an awesome bacon cheese burger last night at Eagle Street in St.Paul) yuummm. I thought i needed the calories and fat since Ive lost 4+ lbs in the last two weeks.

I've also had my first CRAVING~

CANTALOUPE!!!!!

I ate two whole melons in less than 24 hrs... mmmmm and i could eat another two right now. Something about fruit these days.. i just can't get enough.

I guess on a good note my sweet tooth really hasn't come back. I had a few bights of ice cream last night and it just wasn't as good as i remember... guess I'm sticking with fruit for now.

....how lucky am i to be married to a fruit/produce man???

The next big date to look forward to is Feb 7th!
That will be the day that I go in for my first Ultrasound and
we will be able to hear the heart beat....i wish it was sooner.. but they
can tell alot more about the baby at that time.

At work over the weekend I found out that two other nurses
are 12 and 16 weeks pregnant on my floor.. they were both really helpful on how
to combat the morning sickness ive been getting. They informed me to keep saltines by my bedside and when i wake up in the morning to eat a few even before i get out of bed.. then i sip on lemonade till the wave of nausea passes. IT WORKED! I was emesis-free all Sunday. What a nice morning i had actually being able to tend to my patients and keep my mascara from running! :-)

My doctors appointment

I met with my OB doc earlier this week and he really made me less nervous about everything.
I think part of my nausea was also from nerves about everything. They had to do blood work, a quick physical and then they went over this huge baby book that breaks down everything you will do and experience in the next 8 months.
Its a great resource.. like I never knew about certain fish I couldn't eat or how you need 1200mg of calcium a day! yikes.. i better start eating my greens!

Also... a big change around our house is that Mike has to clean out the kitty litter box because of the risk of toxoplasmosis in the cat poop that can be transfered to the baby. I felt bad for him.. becausehe gags everytime he looks at the poop... i guess its good practice for when the baby arrives. Cat

The first week

January 1st-6th

The first week after finding out I was pregnant was definitely rough. I had morning sickness everyday and was tired 24-7.

Places I've been sick

Sick

  1. My bathroom at home.

  2. 4th floor bathroom at work (my floor)

  3. Hwy 10 exit ramp

  4. Work parking lot

  5. 3rd floor staff bathroom (I was shadowing some cath-lab nurses) oops
  6. End of driveway
  7. Begining of driveway
  8. Gym bathroom
  9. Every bathroom at work

Stepping In Poop

Things that for some odd reason make me gag:

  1. any mention of alcohol

  2. anything with meat in it

  3. SWEETS! anything from chocolate ice cream..just can't do it :-( .(i know...it sucks.. and i have a huge sweet tooth!) Hopefully it will change soon

  4. Pizza (mike is really bumb-ed about that one)

  5. car exhaust

  6. cologne, perfume

  7. cereal. especially when i hear the bowl clinking in the morning (like with a spoon)

  8. coffee...yeah..coffee.. haven't had a sip...Starbucks may go out of business !

So that narrows it down of things i actually can eat and keep down:

My diet has basically been of mashed potatoes, any fruit, saltine crackers, carrots and crystal light lemonade.

Through all my gaging of odd stuff Mike has been really supportive and is doing really well at not getting annoyed with my specific requests.....like to eat breakfast far away from me.

When do you think we will have our baby?
